Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
SeeBoop is a peer-to-peer pet monitoring app. We built it with privacy as a first principle — your video never touches our servers. This policy explains exactly what we do and don't collect.
1. What we collect
- Email address — used for account creation, login, and transactional emails (billing receipts, password reset). If you agree, we also send occasional tips and product news; you choose this at sign-up (or later from Account settings) and can unsubscribe at any time from a link in every such email, with no need to sign in.
- FCM / APNs push token — so we can send you noise and motion alerts when your Viewer app is in the background. Stored per device and rotated whenever the OS issues a new token.
- Device metadata — device name, platform (iOS / Android / macOS / Windows), and app version. Used to identify which device is acting as Station or Viewer.
- Billing receipts — if you purchase Premium, we store a billing event record (amount, date, Stripe or RevenueCat event ID). We do not store card numbers; those remain with Stripe / Apple / Google.
- Pairing metadata — the name you give each pairing (e.g. "Living Room") and the time it was created. Used to label notifications and recordings.
- Pet profiles: the name, breed and birthday you enter for a pet, and an optional photo you choose to add.
- Location (optional): if you use Outdoor Safety, the place you search for or, if you tap "Use my location", your device's current coordinates. We save it on your pet's profile (or only on your device if you have no pet profile yet) so the app can show the local weather. It is only read while you are using that feature, and never in the background.
- Voice clips you record: comfort clips you record to play back on a Station.
- Sound clips you choose to share (optional): when the app asks whether a detected bark, meow or crash was right, you can also share that one-second clip to help improve detection. Nothing is uploaded unless you say so for that clip, and you can have a shared clip deleted at any time.
- Crash and performance reports: when the app crashes or freezes, it sends a technical report (error details, app version, device model and operating system) to our error-monitoring service. These reports do not include your video or audio.
- Sign-in provider details: if you sign in with Google, Microsoft or Apple, we receive your email address from that provider. We never see your password for those accounts.
- Email preference and delivery records: whether you've agreed to tips and news emails, the wording you saw when you decided, and a record of what was sent and when, so an unsubscribe request is honored reliably. If an email address hard-bounces or is used to unsubscribe, we keep a one-way hash of it (not the address itself) so we don't email it again, even across a deleted and recreated account.
- Network address: your IP address is used to rate-limit requests and prevent abuse. Where we keep it with a login session, it is stored only as a one-way hash.
- Recordings (Premium only) — if you opt in to cloud recordings, video clips are stored on our servers encrypted at rest and are accessible only to you. You can delete them at any time from the app.
2. How we use it
- Account authentication and session management (JWT, short-lived tokens).
- Delivering push notifications for noise and motion events.
- Sending transactional email (confirmation, password reset) and, if you've agreed, occasional tips and product news.
- Processing and reconciling payments via Stripe and RevenueCat.
- Storing cloud recordings you explicitly trigger (Premium feature).
- Diagnosing and fixing crashes and freezes using automatic crash reports.
- Showing local weather and paw-safety guidance for Outdoor Safety, using the location you provide.
- Improving bark, meow and crash detection, using only the sound clips you chose to share.
- Preventing abuse and keeping the service reliable.
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Data retention and deletion
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. Cloud recordings are retained for 30 days and then automatically deleted unless you delete them sooner. When you delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account), we erase your email, push tokens, device records, pet profiles and photos, pairing metadata, voice clips, shared sound clips, and cloud recordings within 30 days. If you had unsubscribed or an email to you had bounced, we keep the one-way hash described above so the same address isn't emailed again. If you cannot sign in, follow the steps at seeboop.com/delete-account. Billing records are retained for 7 years to comply with financial regulations; they are anonymised after account deletion.
4. Third-party processors
- Stripe — processes web payments. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Resend — sends every email from SeeBoop, transactional and (if you've agreed) tips and product news. Subject to Resend's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — processes in-app purchases on iOS and Android. Subject to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Google Play and the Apple App Store: process in-app purchases and hold your payment details. We never receive your card number.
- Sentry: receives the crash and performance reports described above. Subject to Sentry's Privacy Policy.
- MET Norway: when you use Outdoor Safety, your device sends the coordinates of the place you chose to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (api.met.no) to fetch the weather forecast. If you turn on pavement alerts, our server also sends your pet's saved location, rounded to about 1 km, to MET Norway on a schedule to check the forecast. Subject to MET Norway's terms. Based on data from MET Norway, CC BY 4.0.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim): when you search for a place by name or postcode in Outdoor Safety, the text you type is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find matching places. Subject to the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. Place data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
- Google, Microsoft and Apple sign-in: if you choose to sign in with one of them, that provider authenticates you under its own privacy policy.
- Cloudflare — CDN and DDoS protection for seeboop.com. Cloudflare may log request metadata (IP, user agent) per their standard terms.
- Hetzner — our VPS host. All server-side data is stored in Hetzner datacentres in the EU.
- Google Firebase (FCM) — delivers push notifications to Android devices. Push tokens are shared with Google's FCM service.
- Apple APNs — delivers push notifications to iOS and macOS devices. Push tokens are shared with Apple's APNs service.
